BYU ranks 71st in new U.S. News & World Report survey

Brigham Young University is ranked 71st in U.S. News & World Report's annual survey, "America's Best Colleges," with the Marriott School of Management's undergraduate program ranked among the top 50 in "Best Business Programs," coming in at 35th.

The Aug. 29 issue of U.S. News & World Report, which hits newsstands Monday, ranks about 1,400 four-year accredited colleges and universities by mission and region. BYU falls into the category of "national universities," which includes schools that offer a full range of undergraduate majors – plus master's and doctoral degrees.

Last year, BYU was ranked 74th in the "Best National Universities" category.

This year the university is also listed as 22nd in the "Great Schools, Great Prices" category. Additionally, it is listed as 13th in the category of "Least Debt," which compares the average debt carried by departing graduates.

In overall rankings, Harvard and Princeton tied for first, followed by Yale and the University of Pennsylvania.

In specialty categories, the Marriott School's accounting program was ranked 8th, and its international business program was ranked 21st.

In addition to U.S. News & World Report's release, Forbes magazine released today its rankings of "Best Business Schools," which are published in the Sept. 5 issue. BYU's Marriott School of Management's MBA program is ranked 17th in the category of "Top U.S. Business Schools."
