BYU professor of nursing named fellow by national education association

Barbara Mandleco, a faculty member in the College of Nursing at Brigham Young University, was one of 32 distinguished nurse educators inducted as fellows into the National League for Nursing’s Academy of Nursing Education.

The NLN is the oldest nursing organization in the United States and has been dedicated to excellence in nursing education since 1893.

According to NLN president Judith Halstead, Mandleco’s induction comes as a result of her “enduring and substantial contributions to nursing education (and) visionary leadership in nursing education.”

Former BYU College of Nursing Dean Beth Cole said, “[Mandleco] has been a dedicated nurse educator and has contributed substantive literature to family nursing. She has been an outstanding BYU faculty for the past 35 years.”

One of Mandleco’s significant contributions to nursing education is based on her work as an editor and author of Pediatric Nursing: Caring for Children and their Families, an insightful/dynamic pediatric nursing textbook embracing a holistic/family-centered approach to caring for children along the health-illness continuum.

Mandleco’s research interests focus on families who are raising children with disabilities and chronic conditions. In many years of teaching nursing at BYU, she has mentored dozens of students and faculty.
