BYU professor named fellow of two national societies

Von D. Jolley was recently elected a fellow of both the American Society of Agronomy and the Soil Science Society of America at their national meetings held in Indianapolis.

Jolley is a professor of agronomy and chair of the Plant and Animal Sciences Department at Brigham Young University.

He earned a B.S. degree from BYU and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Iowa State University. His primary responsibility at BYU, where he has taught since 1977, is teaching and research mentoring undergraduate students.

Jolley's research focuses on physiological responses of plants to micronutrient stresses, especially iron. Over the last 20 years one of his greatest professional services has been his involvement in leadership with the International Symposium on Iron Nutrition and Interactions in Plants.

He regularly cooperates with national and international colleagues to identify physiological explanations for field-observed problems.

Jolley has published more than 80 technical refereed publications, participated in nearly 100 oral or poster presentations and been an invited speaker at American Chemistry Society and ASA/SSSA symposia. Nearly 50 percent of these involved undergraduate student participation.
