BYU presents vocal jazz concert March 3

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents Jazz Voices and Women's Vocal Jazz with two guest artists under the direction of Kelly Eisenhour Thursday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The Women's Vocal Jazz will perform "Blues in the Night," "Bye Bye Blackbird" and "What'll I Do." Jazz voices will perform "Whisper Not," "Fly Me to the Moon," "Caravan" and a surprise gospel piece.

"Jazz music is meant to be heard live, and the spontaneity of it is exciting and exhilarating," Eisenhour said. "If you are not sure you like jazz and have never been to a live jazz concert, give us a try."

Guest artists Jay Lawrence from the faculty band Q'd Up and David Halliday, a Synthesis jazz band alumni, will perform with the jazz vocal groups. Lawrence will play the drums and Halliday will play the saxophone.

Members of the two choirs auditioned and were chosen out of approximately 70 participants. Participation in the choirs is open to music majors and non majors alike.

For more information contact Kelly Eisenhour at (801) 360-6101.
