BYU plans Martin Luther King Jr. Day activities

Brigham Young University will commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a day of service and the annual “Walk of Life” Monday, Jan. 20.

• BYU’s Center for Service and Learning has joined hands with Utah Valley University and United Way of Utah County to host the annual “Community Outreach Day.”

Service projects will be set up throughout the Wilkinson Student Center on campus for students and community members of all ages to help give back in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Interested participants should arrive by 8:30 a.m. to register for a service project where donuts and juice will be served. Registration will be followed by a brief devotional.

Projects will include quilt-making, blood donation, assisting home-bound senior citizens and other off-campus activities throughout Provo and Orem. Projects will conclude at 1 p.m.

• BYU’s Multicultural Student Services will host the annual “Walk of Life: A Celebration of the Life and Mission of Martin Luther King Jr.” A candlelight processional will begin at the Carillon Bell Tower at 5:30 p.m. The processional will include important quotes and sound bites from King’s life.

The processional will work its way to the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom where a commemoration program will begin.
