BYU plans Industrial Design Symposium Feb. 24-25

The Brigham Young University Industrial Design Program in the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology will host the 2nd Annual Industrial Design Symposium Thursday, Feb. 24, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Roland A. Crabtree Technology Building.

Thursday’s events are open to the public and will begin with a pizza social and product exhibition in the CTB second floor lobby. Following the social, Susan Perkins, vice president of global design at Tupperware Brands Corporation, will speak on “Evolution of Design at Tupperware” at 6:45 p.m., followed by Steve McDonald, principal at Face Plant, who will discuss “Considered Design: Inspiration, the Future and Staying Curious” at 8 p.m., both in 214 CTB.

Friday morning will feature industrial design student workshops and discussions. Beginning at 1 p.m., workshops will be led by Ashley Menger, senior interaction designer from Frog Design, and Paul Backett, industrial design director from Ziba Design.

At 7 p.m., BYU alumni Andres Parada (Gravitytank), Dan Howell (BYU MBA student), Jacob Wilson (Kate Spade) and Noci Li (Kaleidoscope) will participate in a panel discussion on “My Design Adventures Post-BYU.”

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
