BYU plans Deseret Chamber Music Festival May 12-13, 19-20

The Brigham Young University School of Music will present the Deseret Chamber Music Festival Friday and Saturday, May 12-13 and 19-20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Tickets are available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 422-4322 or at performances.byu.edu. Tickets for each performance are $7 or $5 for seniors and those with BYU or student ID. A festival pass for all performances is $14.

The critically acclaimed American Piano Duo, consisting of Jeffrey Shumway and Del Parkinson, will perform Friday, May 12. Having recently received praise from American Record Guide, the duo will perform selections by Mozart, Liszt, Adams and Ravel.

The Utah Trombone Authority--with members Mark Ammons, Will Kimball, Russell McKinney and James Nova--will perform Saturday, May 13. Selections by the trombone quartet will include pieces by Sargent, Bach, Haydn and Jimi Hendrix.

The Orpheus Winds Quintet, with guests Joanna Oshida on piano and Ron Brough on percussion, will perform selections such as the Sextet in B-flat Major, op. 6 by Thuille, the Concerto for Piano and Woodwind Quintet by Riegger and the South American tango, “Libertango” by Piazzolla on Friday, May 19. Members include BYU faculty artists April Clayton on flute, Geralyn Giovannetti on oboe, Jaren Hinckley on clarinet, Laurence Lowe on horn and Christian Smith on bassoon.

The Deseret Piano Trio, with guest violist Claudine Bigelow, will perform works by Shostakovich and Brahms on Saturday, May 20, with Jeffrey Shumway on piano, Monte Belknap on violin and Julie Bevan on cello.
