BYU plans Career Fair Oct. 1

Career Placement Services at Brigham Young University will sponsor the Fall 2003 Career Fair Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom.

More than 100 employers from business, financial, technical, government and nonprofit sectors have registered for the fair.

"Full-time positions for students graduating this academic year are the main focus, but many employers are seeking experienced people and some will offer internships," said Arnold Parrott, Career Placement Services director.

"This is a great place and time to start employer networking for those students who still have college years ahead of them," he said.

The campus-wide Career Fair is open to students from all majors and class years and from all colleges, departments and fields of study. BYU alumni are also invited.

CPS offers special workshops on resumes, letter-writing and interviewing to help students better prepare for the career fair.

Schedules for the workshops are available in 2410 WSC. Special "Strategies and Tactics Workshops" for liberal arts and humanities majors as well as for business and management students are also being offered.

CPS is also offering a "Dress for Career Success" seminar featuring Judith Rasband, a well-known image author and director of the Conselle Institute of Image Management. Dress, bearing, manners and conduct are all part of a meaningful career search, and the seminar can help students improve their search efforts, said Richard Cox, Career Fair chair.

In addition to the workshops and seminars, CPS advisors recommend that students research all employers they plan to visit and have good questions ready to ask. Success depends on the student's preparation, Parrott said.
