BYU Percussion Ensemble, Panoramic Steel plan April 7 concert

The Brigham Young University Percussion Ensemble and Panoramic Steel concert, part of the Percussive Arts Festival, will take place Saturday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall in the Harris Fine Arts Center.

Tickets at $9, $7.50 for alumni and seniors or $6 with a BYU or student ID may be obtained through the Harris Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 422-7664 or at performances.byu.edu.

The concert will feature special guests David Friedman and Mark Walker, as well as supporting artists Jay Lawrence, Steve Lindeman and Matt Larson. The event will be hosted by Ron Brough and Michael Huestis.

The program will begin with a set of four songs by the Percussion Ensemble, featuring the works of Christopher Rouse and David Friedman in “Ogoun Badagris” and “Lunch with Pancho Villa.” Next the BYU Salsa Combo will present “Nostalgia in Times Square” by Charles Mingus and “Dance City” by Oscar Hernandez, after which Panoramic Steel will finish off the night with another set of four works by Tom Miller, Mark Walker, Andy Narell and Ray Holman.

The concert will be supported in part by BYU’s Laycock Center for Collaboration in the Arts, the Percussive Arts Society and the BYU School of Music.
