BYU offers free music, dance concerts March 25-29

The Brigham Young University School of Music and Department of Dance will host six free events on campus Tuesday through Saturday, March 25=29.

• The Invitational Songwriters Showcase will be held on Tuesday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center.

• The Woodwind Chamber Night will be held on Wednesday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center. Students will perform under the direction of Jaren Hinckley, Geralyn Giovannetti, Christian Smith, Alicia Christensen and Heidi Reed.

• The works of Faure, Mozart, Dvorak, DeBussy, Martino and other composers will be performed during the Saxophone Chamber Night on Thursday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center.

• The University Strings and University Orchestra will perform on Friday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center. The concert will include pieces by Mozart, Brahms, Schubert and Tchaikovsky.

• Senior dance students will perform during the Senior Dance Showcase on Friday and Saturday, March 28-29, at 7:30 p.m. in 166 Richards Building.

• The BYU Harp Solo and Ensemble recital will be held on Saturday, March 29, at 3:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center. The concert will include performances of traditional North American, South American and Scottish songs.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
