BYU to observe National Chemistry Week Oct. 18-24

National Chemistry Week will take place the week of Oct. 18-24 on the campus of Brigham Young University with a variety of activities and programs sponsored by the Central Utah Section of the American Chemical Society, including chemical magic shows and a research poster session and reception.

National Chemistry Week is celebrated yearly during the third full week of October by ACS local sections. It is designed to enhance the public’s awareness of the contributions that chemistry makes to society and to everyday life. This year’s theme is “Chemistry — It’s Elemental!”

The popular Chemical Magic Shows include demonstrations that illustrate important principles of chemistry. These shows are entertaining and tickets sell out fast. Call (801) 422-3667 to reserve free tickets to one of the shows. The Chemical Magic Shows will be held on the following dates and times in W111 Benson Science Building on the BYU campus: Oct. 19, 6 p.m.; Oct. 20-22, 7 p.m.; and Oct. 23, 7:30 p.m.

The Research Poster Session is a great chance to learn more about the current research that is being done by the Central Utah ACS section. The posters will be on display in the Benson Science Building lobby Oct. 22-23. A reception will be held on Oct. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m.

For more resources and information about National Chemistry Week, visit the American Chemical Society’s web page at www.acs.org or contact D. Lynn Patten at (801) 422-4022.
