BYU names 2011 Student Employee of the Year

Brady Patrick Sanders, an accounting clerk in the College of Fine Arts and Communications’ Division of Design and Production, is the 2011 Brigham Young University Employee of the Year.

Sanders was also chosen as the State of Utah Student Employee of the Year and will be considered for the regional competition.

Last February, approximately 145 students were nominated by their employers from more than 50 departments across campus — the most nominations in five years, according to Kathleen Christensen of BYU’s Student Employment Office. Employees were considered for their reliability, quality of work, initiative, professionalism, uniqueness and community service.

Sanders is highly regarded in his department for his outstanding performance in each of these categories.

“In the two years that Brady has been with us, we have come to depend on his willingness to tackle any project, no matter how difficult, and still maintain his normal work assignment,” said Kyle Nielsen, an accountant in the college's Division of Design and Production.

Jeff Martin, arts manager in the same division, said about Sanders, “Brady is one of the hardest-working and innovative students I have had the pleasure of working with during my entire three and half years at BYU. He is always eager to help solve difficult problems and is more than willing to go the extra mile, even when it has not been asked of him.”

Sanders was thrilled to receive the recognition.

“It is really exciting to win this award,” he said. “I love where I work and it is nice to be recognized as a good employee.”

Sanders was given flexibility and many opportunities to help improve the division with his own ideas. “It was nice to have that freedom,” he said. “One thing that I love about BYU is that it allows us to work in the field that we’re studying. They trust us enough to do the accounting or whatever we’re doing for the future.”

Eric Okazaki and Rebecca Ingram were awarded as runner-ups in the competition, sponsored by BYU Human Resource Services.
