BYU museum, UNICEF Club host holiday activity for children Dec. 10

Brigham Young University’s Museum of Peoples and Cultures will join with the campus UNICEF Club to sponsor “The Gift of Learning,” an  early Christmas present for children Friday, Dec. 10, from 4 to 6 p.m.

The free event will include treats, a video and four learning stations focused on math, geography, reading and writing. Children are able to come at any time and rotate through the stations. While the event is geared towards children, everyone is welcome.

“We want to show the kids that the best gift for yourself is education,” said Jessica Myers, a BYU UNICEF club member.

According to Myers, thousands of children die every year due to catastrophe, war, famine and other  causes. UNICEF members want to bring that number “down to zero” by doing whatever they can to serve their community.

“Our goal is to educate members throughout the community about children around the world who are in need of help,” Myers said.

Both the museum and BYU’s UNICEF Club hope to give Utah Valley children a unique and exciting experience for Christmas.

“The children will leave the museum with more than just some treats and a craft,” said Anna McKean, promotions manager at the museum. “They will get to take new knowledge that they can share with others.”

The museum is located on 100 E. 700 N. in Provo and is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
