BYU Museum of Paleontology offers free Monday night family programs through Nov. 5

The Museum of Paleontology at Brigham Young University will begin hosting its weekly Family Night Monday, Oct. 15, welcoming the public to learn what life was like in the prehistoric world. The museum is located on the corner southwest of LaVell Edwards Stadium.

The museum extends its normal hours on Monday evenings to allow the public, including student family home evening groups, to tour the museum’s many treasures. Free Monday night tours will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. through Nov. 5.

Formerly known as the Earth Science Museum, the Museum of Paleontology specializes in Upper Jurassic Period dinosaur fossils from North America. It also displays a variety of collections, including Devonian Period fish and Pleistocene Epoch mammoths.

While primarily a center for research and teaching, the 5,000 square-foot museum now attracts more than 25,000 visitors a year and has become a popular attraction for school groups across Utah.

Tours of the museum can be booked during its normal hours of operation, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, by calling the museum at (801) 422-3680. For more information regarding the museum, or to take a virtual tour, visit the museum’s website at cpms.byu.edu/ESM/index.html.
