BYU Men's, Women's Choruses plan joint concerts March 25-26

The Brigham Young University Women’s Chorus and Men’s Chorus will perform two spring concerts Tuesday and Wednesday, March 25-26, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets are $10 for general admission or $7 with a BYU or student ID and can be purchased at the BYU Fine Arts Ticket Office or by calling (801) 422-4322.

The Men’s Chorus will open the performance with “Four Liturgical Texts,” followed by “Two American Folk Hymns” and “Three African-America Spirituals.” The chorus’s closing section, “Tonight at Eight,” will include “Tonight” from the Leonard Bernstein musical West Side Story and “Kiss the Girl” from Walt Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Directed by Rosalind Hall, the Men’s Chorus is the largest collegiate male choral organization in the United States. It is one of BYU's most popular performing groups, regularly singing to sold-out concert halls both on and off campus

The Women’s Chorus will be featured during the second half of the concert, performing sections titled “Easter Reflections,” “Speaking of Love” and “Swing Time,” including a performance of George and Ira Gershwin’s popular jazz standard “I Got Rhythm.” Under the direction of Jean Applonie, the Women's Chorus is a large group of select, versatile singers who perform a diverse repertoire extending from medieval and renaissance works to masterpieces of our own time.

Several student and faculty musicians will be featured along with the choirs, including Jennifer Welch-Babidge, soprano, and Dan Omer, horn.

For more information, contact Rosalind Hall at (801) 422-2272, or Jean Applonie at (801) 422-7495.
