BYU Men's, Women's Choruses plan concerts Nov. 10-11

The Brigham Young University Men’s Chorus and Women’s Chorus will perform a joint fall concert Friday and Saturday, Nov. 10-11, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Admission is $9 or $6 with a BYU or student ID. Tickets can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, by calling (801) 422-7664 or by visiting performances.byu.edu.

Rosalind Hall will conduct the Men’s Chorus in a series of “student life” songs, mood music from the 19th century, consecration music and songs from the tropics. Selections will include “Good Fellows Be Merry” by Bach, “The Gondolier” by Franz Schubert, “Lord, Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace” by John Rutter and “Tahitian Folk Song,” arranged by Jarolde Harris II.

The Women’s Chorus, conducted by Jean Applonie, will begin with a series of religious pieces, including two arrangements of “Ave Maria” and “O Love That Glorifies the Son” by Lorin F. Wheelwright. The chorus will then present contemporary numbers, such as “The Lark in the Clear Air,” arranged by Stuart Calvert, and three numbers from the musical “Wicked,” including “Popular,” “For Good” and “Defying Gravity,” all by Stephen Schwartz.

Founded by Ralph Woodward in 1958, the Men’s Chorus performs pieces for male voices from all time periods, as well as folk songs, religious compositions and contemporary arrangements.

The Women’s Chorus is known for performing pieces ranging from the medieval and Renaissance periods up to modern masterpieces. The chorus also specializes in folk music and spirituals.

For more information, contact Rosalind Hall at (801) 422-2272 or Jean Applonie at (801) 422-7495.
