BYU law librarian named council chair of American Association of Law Libraries

Dennis S. Sears, senior law librarian at Brigham Young University's Howard W. Hunter Law Library at the J. Reuben Clark Law School, was recently elected as the Special Interest Section Council Chair of the American Association of Law Libraries.

Having served the previous year as the chair of the Foreign, Comparative and International Law Special Interest Section, he was elected to chair the council, which consists of 13 special interest sections. As the chair, he will represent the interests and concerns of the various special interest sections to the 11-member AALL executive board.

The special interest sections range in size from just under 100 members to more than 1,400 members, depending on area of specialty. Most members of AALL, which has a membership of more than 5,000 law librarians, belong to one or more SIS depending on their professional responsibilities.

Although the specific focus of the various special interest sections varies widely, their purpose is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information for librarians with similar responsibilities and interests.

Law librarians comprising each section represent academic, law firm, government and corporate law libraries from across the United States as well as more than a dozen foreign countries.

For more information, contact Dennis Sears at (801) 422-7472.
