BYU hosts “Teaching Ethics at Universities” conference May 23-25

Brigham Young University Conferences and Workshops invites university and college professors to the second annual Teaching Ethics at Universities” conference, showcasing the top ethics professors in the nation as they discuss the teaching of ethics Monday through Wednesday, May 23-25, in the N. Eldon Tanner Building.

Registration is $400, and $200 for graduate students. BYU faculty must register by phone. Meals and activities are included in the fee. Register online at ce.byu.edu/cw/ethics/register, by phone at (877) 221-6716, or in person at the Harman Continuing Education Building between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The conference will allow attendees to learn about different pedagogical approaches to business ethics and provide insight into building or improving one’s own ethics courses.

Monday’s events will begin at 3:30 p.m. with a research session on ethics and a teaching session by Len Brooks from the University of Toronto and will end with a dinner at 7 p.m.  

Tuesday’s events will begin at 8 a.m. with teaching sessions by Linda Trevino from Penn State University and Bill O’Rourke from Alcoa. Lunch and a panel discussion will begin at noon. The lunch and panel discussion is also open for $15 to those who would like to attend this single event. There will be free time at 2:15 p.m. and various activities will be offered, including a hike to Stewart Falls, a ride on the Sundance Ski Lift, a tour of the BYU Art Museum and a BYU campus tour. Dinner will be at the Sundance Resort at 6 p.m. The evening will finish with a teaching session by Joseph DesJardins from College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University. 

Wednesday will conclude the conference with a teaching session by Jeff Thompson from BYU and Patrick Murphy from Notre Dame from 8 to 11:40 a.m. An optional lunch at the Skyroom Restaurant on the 6thfloor of the Wilkinson Student Center will be available at noon.

BYU’s space ace: Minor planet named in honor of Jani Radebaugh

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.
