BYU hosts second annual Teacher Fair Feb. 24

The second annual Brigham Young University Teacher Fair will take place Thursday, Feb. 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom.

Last year 51 school districts were represented in the fair. This year 57 school districts from 14 states have already registered, says Lisa Gregory, Teacher Fair chair.

"With 57 this year and possibly more registrations yet to come, we're seeing the benefits of our outreach efforts where we personally visit out-of-state schools throughout the United States," Gregory says,

Students who attend the Teacher Fair may visit http://teacherfair.byu.edu for a list of school districts registered. Students are also expected to dress professionally, bring resumes and be prepared for on-the-spot interviews.

"All should familiarize themselves with the district profiles," Gregory says. "Good research goes a long way in persuading employers to hire you. Professional networking opportunities won't ever be better."

The David O. McKay School of Education sends out more than 1,000 certified teachers and a pool of clinicians, counselors and administrators each year. It has become one of the largest teacher preparation programs in the country.

"We have a lot of work to do to attract these districts to BYU," Gregory says. "We're getting better response as we call and visit."
