BYU hosts National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration Feb. 12

The Brigham Young University Athletic Department will host a National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration Saturday, Feb. 12, from 4-6 p.m. in the new Indoor Practice Facility.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The theme for this year's national celebration is "More Than a Game." Games, contests, raffles and free gifts will all be part of the festivities.

Many of the BYU women's athletic team will also participate in the event including women's soccer, track and field, golf, basketball, volleyball and gymnastics.

The event is a great opportunity for youth in the community to come and meet some of their favorite BYU women athletes.

"As coaches we felt this was an important event to participate in and we encourage the youth in the community to attend," said Jennifer Rockwood, head coach of the BYU women's soccer team.

The National Girls and Women in Sports Day was chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1986 to honor female athletic achievement and recognize the importance of sports and fitness participation for all girls and women. All 50 states participate in the celebration.

For more information contact Jennifer Rockwood at (801) 422-8732 or Doug Padilla at (801) 422-1295.
