BYU hosts "A Milton Celebration" Dec. 4

The Madsen Recital Hall will be the site of "A Milton Celebration," a tribute to John Milton (1608-1647), one of the greatest poets of the English language, on Wednesday (Dec. 4) at 7:30 p.m. Admission to this event is free.

Born in London on Dec. 9, 1608, Milton became one of the greatest figures in the history of English literature, and his writings represent an "Everest" in artistic expression and achievement.

BYU professors Glade Hunsaker of the College of Humanities and Douglas Bush of the School of Music will team up for an evening featuring excerpts from several of Milton's works including "De Doctrina Christiana," "Comus," "Paradise Lost," and "Areopagitca," along with commentary from Hunsaker illuminating the literary and philosophical context, with musical works that compliment the literary prose.

Together, words and music will celebrate Milton's contributions to religious thought and western civilization.
