BYU hosts members of Japan's Hakuho performing troupe May 31-June 1

Musicians and Noh actors

Brigham Young University’s Department of Asian and Near Eastern Languages will host a series of workshops and performances by four members of Japan’s Hakuho performing troupe on Thursday, May 31, and Friday, June 1.

The workshops will be held both days from 1 to 3 p.m. in B192 Joseph F. Smith Building, and English translation will be provided.

Thursday’s performance will be at 7:30 p.m. at Centre Stage in the Sorensen Student Center at Utah Valley State College, and Friday’s performance will be at 7 p.m. in B192 Joseph F. Smith Building.

All events are free, and the public is welcome to attend.

The workshops will include discussions about Japanese music and instruments. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions of members of the troupe.

The performances will include traditional Japanese string and percussion instruments, including the koto, shamisen and drums.

The Tokyo-based Hakuho troupe is made up of renowned musicians and Noh drama performers. This is the second time in two years members of the group have visited BYU.
