BYU hosts free music events March 17-21

Several Brigham Young University performing artists and ensembles will present free concerts during the week of March 17-21.

CANCELLED: Group for New Music, BYU's avant-garde and new music ensemble under the direction of Michael Hicks, will perform original, contemporary works by faculty and students Tuesday, March 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center.

• BYU’s best songwriters will be featured at Songwriter Showcase, Thursday, March 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center. The concert is modeled after similar showcases held in Nashville and Los Angeles.

• The Woodwind Chamber Night will be Friday, March 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center.

• BYU School of music faculty artist and professor of organ Douglas Bush will appear in recital Saturday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center.

BYU’s space ace: Minor planet named in honor of Jani Radebaugh

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.

BYU team helps create diagnostic tool that achieves accuracy of PCR tests with faster, simpler nanopore system
