BYU hosts fall semester Ballet Showcase Nov. 16-17

The Department of Dance at Brigham Young University will present its fall semester Ballet Showcase on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16-17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Dance Studio Theatre, 166 Richards Building.

Admission to the performance will be $5. Tickets can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, by calling (801) 422-4322 or by visiting performances.byu.edu.

The program will include “Further Down the River,” a piece by BYU faculty member Janalyn Memmott featuring the music of Incubus; a divertissement from the classic ballet “Raymonda” set to the music of Alexander Glazunov; “Capriole Suite,” a number by Suzi Wood, the showcase’s artistic director, with music by Peter Warlock; and “Concealed,” a contemporary ballet set to Karl Jenkins’ music and choreographed by BYU faculty member Shani Robison.

The showcase will also feature a senior project by BYU student Aileen Villalba Tamez.

BYU’s space ace: Minor planet named in honor of Jani Radebaugh

BYU planetary geology professor Jani Radebaugh’s contributions to planetary science have reached cosmic proportions as she recently received the prestigious honor of having a minor planet named her. The asteroid, previously known as “45690,” now bears the name “45690janiradebaugh” on official NASA/JPL websites.
