BYU hosts debate on balance of power Sept. 17 to celebrate Constitution Day

The College of Family, Home and Social Sciences at Brigham Young University will host a special Constitution Day debate Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. in 1102 Jesse Knight Building.

Wade Jacoby and Sven Wilson of the Department of Political Science as well as Fred Gedicks and John Fee of the J. Reuben Clark Law School will debate the balance of power established by the Constitution. The debate will be moderated by Matthew Holland of the Department of Political Science.

Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.

“The U.S. Constitution is essentially about balancing power across the national government and the state governments and then across the different branches within the national government,” said Jeremy Pope, assistant professor in the Department of Political Science and head of the Constitution Day committee. “The specific concern is that the executive branch has grown too powerful relative to the other branches.”

For additional information, contact Constitution Day committee member Erica Germaine at (801) 422-4440 or erica_germaine@byu.edu.
