BYU hosts book collecting conference Oct. 28-29

The L. Tom Perry Special Collections of the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University presents the second annual A. Dean Larsen Book Collecting Conference Thursday and Friday, Oct. 28-29.

The conference is a two-day event for scholars, collectors, bibliophiles and library friends. Participants will explore Western and Eastern print traditions, publications from the medieval era and rare books from the last century.

The conference includes seminars on Japanese printing, medieval manuscripts, Mormon periodicals, 19th-century photography and children's Victorian literature. Stephen Pratt of Pratt Press Works will conduct a printing workshop and Rob Bucher will conduct a paper-making workshop.

A reception will be held at the Crandal Historical Printing Museum, featuring replicas of the Grandin, Franklin and Gutenberg presses, Thursday at 7 p.m.
