BYU hosts annual Walk of Life Jan. 15 at 5:30 p.m.

A celebration of the life of Martin Luther King Jr.

Brigham Young University will host its annual Walk of Life Memorial Service, a celebration of the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and the triumphs of the civil rights movement, on Monday, Jan. 15 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Carillon Bell Tower.

The event will be free and the public is welcome to attend.

A candlelight processional will move from the bell tower to the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom. The program will continue with a speech by Michael Styles, ethnic director of Black Affairs and program director for the Utah Martin Luther King, Jr. Human Rights Commission. The Black Student Union Choir will perform musical selections, and the program will also feature a presentation of King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

The Walk of Life program is sponsored by Multicultural Student Services and the Black Student Union. It will be the first of a series of events honoring Black History Month in a celebration called “May We Forever Stand.”
