BYU hosts 82nd annual Campus Education Week Aug. 16-20

Brigham Young University will host the 82nd Campus Education Week Aug. 16–20 at locations throughout the BYU campus.

The theme for the week is "Finding 'Wisdom and Great Treasures of Knowledge.'"

The program will feature 191 faculty who will present nearly 1,000 classes on the Standard Works of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, gospel principles, family and marriage relations, education, finance, self-improvement and scores of other topics, as well as classes for youth.

Elder Lance B. Wickman, a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy and General Counsel of the LDS Church, will be the general session devotional speaker Tuesday, Aug. 17, at 11:10 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

The devotional is open to the university community and the general public.

In addition to the classes, three performances will be held in the Harris Fine Arts Center on the evenings of August 17–20. The performances are "Oklahoma!" produced by SCERA, "The Music and Comedy of Lee Fugal" and "The Inspirational Music Showcase" featuring 11 well-known LDS artists.

A youth dance for registered Education Week students will also be held at the LaVell Edwards Stadium south concourse Aug. 19 from 8 to 11 p.m.

For a schedule of classes, events, broadcast, and registration information, visit the Web at http://educationweek.byu.edu, or call (801) 422-2087.

The program annually draws a total of 22,000 participants from all 50 of the United States and from more than 12 other countries.

To extend the educational resources of BYU and the Church Educational System, 12 presentations will be broadcast over the Church satellite system and BYU Television to the United States and Canada Sept. 14–17.

The broadcasts will also be carried on KBYU-TV, BYU Radio, and will be audio- and video-streamed. Eight presentations will also be broadcast over Church satellite to Mexico, Central America, South America, Asia and the Pacific Sept.11 and 18. The time delay in broadcasting the presentations will allow for enhanced language translation.

Campus Education Week organizers are also seeking volunteers to host at the program. Hosting duties include checking tickets, taking attendance counts, assisting faculty and helping with other program details. Volunteers receive a pass that allows them to attend classes when they are not serving as hosts.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older and should be able to serve about 14 hours Aug. 16–20. Flexible shift times are available. Interested persons can call (801) 422-8012.
