BYU to host International Double Reed Society Conference July 22-26

Will include Utah Symphony at Deer Valley concert July 25

Brigham Young University will host the International Double Reed Society 37th Annual Conference Tuesday through Saturday, July 22-26.

The five-day event will include concerts, recitals, master classes and workshops presented by leading double reed artists from around the globe. While the conference focuses on educating double reed amateurs and professionals, anyone is welcome to attend.

The conference will feature evening concerts including “Late-Night Jazz” at the Provo Marriott Hotel on Wednesday, July 23, and the Utah Symphony at Deer Valley Ski Resort on Friday, July 25. Professional artists will also present workshops on oboe, bassoon, contra bassoon and English horn.

The International Double Reed Society is a worldwide organization of double reed players, instrument manufacturers and enthusiasts. The society has more than 4,400 members from 56 countries. Last year’s conference was in Ithaca, New York, and next year’s conference will be in Birmingham, England.

Registration is $450, or $350 for IDRS members and $210 for students, or $170 for IDRS students. For more information and registration, call BYU Conferences and Workshops at (801) 422-8925 or visit ce.byu.edu/w/idrs2008.
