BYU to host Arabic Day camp for students ages 10-18 July 30

Come spend a day in the Arab world! BYU's STARTALK Arabic Day Camp will take place Tuesday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Jesse Knight Building on campus.

Camp registration is $27 per participant (free or reduced lunch prices may be available to students who qualify), which includes all camp activities, as well as a buffet lunch served in the BYU Cannon Center. Registration is available online at tinyurl.com/yarabs or can be completed the day of camp (cash only). Discounts for groups of 20 or more are available.

This one-day camp is perfect for youth who want to get a taste of trying on a non-Western-European language, experience Arab culture in its amazing variety, meet new people from around the world and just have fun. Participants will gain familiarity with the real Arab world, past and present. In one fun-filled day they will learn key phrases for interacting with Arabs and Muslims; experience delicious food from Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Syria; learn to write their name in Arabic script; and get a taste of popular music styles, including an influential music video that expresses the hopeful democratic aspirations of many of their Arab peers. There will also be booths with fun activities, including:

  • Game room with Arabic-themed games
  • Arabic dance lessons
  • Henna body-art
  • Café where participants order slushies in Arabic
