BYU Honors Program to celebrate 50 years March 8

The Honors Program at Brigham Young University will be celebrating its 50th anniversary with the Historic Honors Symposium, Tuesday, March 8, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center Assembly Hall.

This year’s symposium, “The First 50 Years,” will include dinner and feature guest keynote speaker John S. Tanner, former BYU Academic Vice President, with remarks by President Cecil O. Samuelson. Tickets are available now and can be purchased in 350 Karl G. Maeser Building through March 1. Prices are $12 per person or $20 per couple.

All guests in attendance will be listed on the commemorative program and in the official updated history of the Honors Program to be published online this spring.  A professional group photo will also be taken to memorialize the occasion.

Other symposium events will follow throughout the week. Wednesday’s events will include the Symposium Great Works Night at 6 p.m. in 202 and 241 MSRB followed by the Great Works Movie: “West Side Story,” at 7:30 p.m. in 321 MSRB. Thursday will include a service night and course kickoff for new honors students from 4 to 6 p.m. in the MSRB basement. Friday evening, honors students will join for a movie and pizza social at 7:30 p.m. in MSRB Auditorium and will watch “A Street Car Named Desire.”

BYU landscaping students dig their way to 10th national championship

BYU’s landscaping team is the best in the field, literally. While most national championships are won on the court or the gridiron, this one was claimed with pruned shrubs, expertly placed pavers, and top-tier irrigation systems.
