BYU group hosts Monopoly world record attempt site Aug. 27

In celebration of the release of the new "Monopoly Here & Now: The World Edition," fans at Brigham Young University as well as enthusiasts worldwide will unite on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 8 a.m. in an attempt to set a world record for the most people ever playing Monopoly at the same time.

Participants should meet at 7:30 a.m. on the BYU campus at “Wilk Way” between the Harold B. Lee Library and the Bookstore to receive instructions and prepare to play. Games will last until 9 a.m., and the first 100 people to arrive will receive a free t-shirt commemorating the event. Doughnuts will be served and 40 Monopoly games will also be given away as door prizes.

The world record attempt will take place not only in Provo, but also in other cities around the world, including Las Vegas, Atlantic City (home of Monopoly), London, Madrid and Tokyo. To officially be counted by Guinness toward the world record, participants must play the Monopoly board game at BYU in the designated “Wilk Way” area and must play during the 8-9 a.m. time period.

“We look forward to celebrating the new World Edition of Monopoly with our friends at BYU and around the globe,” said Helen Martin, vice president of Global Marketing for Monopoly Brand.

BYU’s Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America is sponsoring BYU’s participation in the event. For more information, contact Jeff DuBois at (801) 422-4946 or Rachel Call at (801) 885-5522.
