BYU graduate killed in Iraq to be remembered Nov. 7

Lt. Nathan White, a BYU graduate who was killed in Iraq in April, will have his name added to the Brigham Young University Memorial Wall in the Wilkinson Student Center Friday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m.

Elder Hartman Rector Jr., an emeritus member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will deliver remarks during the memorial service. White's parents, siblings, spouse and children, USS Kitty Hawk crew members, along with Army and Air Force cadets and other guests, will be present.

White's name will be added to the more than 200 names on the Memorial Wall, which honors BYU students who gave their lives for their countries during wartime conflict.

White was killed when his F/A-18C Hornet was hit and destroyed by a Patriot Missile after White was returning from a bombing mission. He was the first fighter pilot shot down in the war. White was buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., with full military honors.

He graduated from BYU with honors in 1997 and subsequently joined the Navy. He graduated at the top of his class from flight school in 1999.

White was stationed at Atsugi Naval Base in Japan with the USS Kitty Hawk at the time of his deployment to Iraq in February.
