BYU gallery celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Sept. 24 event

The Education in Zion Gallery at Brigham Young University will be hosting a free Family Home Evening event in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month Monday, Sept. 24. Sessions will be held at 6, 7 and 8 p.m.

The program will tell stories of early missionary efforts and highlight the growth of membership and temples in Mexico as well as Central and South America of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"I think it’s important to remember the sacrifices of the Saints in Mexico and South America because these sacrifices were just as big as the sacrifices for Saints in North America,” said Reggie Voyce, a gallery educator who helped plan the event.

The gallery and its permanent exhibit explore a tradition of learning that aims to educate the whole soul and documents the rich history and heritage of education in the Church.

The Education in Zion Gallery is located in the Joseph F. Smith Building east of the Harold B. Lee Library. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Monday and Wednesday nights the gallery stays open until 9 p.m. Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
