"Intersections: Recent Paintings by Six Utah Artists" will be on display through Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, and will display new works by Frank Magleby, James C. Christensen, Gary Ernest Smith, Robert Marshall, Christopher Young and Douglas Fryer. For this exhibition, the artists will concentrate on those subjects and techniques that are unique to them, each exhibiting 12 to 15 works.

Well-known artist Dennis Smith and his son, sculptor Andrew Smith, explore the aesthetics of motion in their first collaborative exhibition, "Poetic Kinetics: Assemblage Art by Dennis and Andrew Smith." This free exhibition will be on display in the BYU Museum of Art through Oct. 18, 2003.

"On the road with CCA Christensen: The moving panorama" will be on display at the BYU Museum of Art through February 14, 2004. This exhibit depicts the religious history of the world from Adam to the life of Joseph Smith, and the pioneers who entered the Salt Lake Valley.

The BYU Museum of Art's permanent collection, "150 Years of American Painting," which includes art from the Hudson River School of the Urban Realists, is on display.

"Artful Tales," a storytelling event, will continue every Monday night at the museum. Families and community groups are invited to the 7 p.m. session. Admission is free.

The museum is open Monday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 19

The BYU School of Music faculty member Douglas Bush will perform an organ recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. The performance is free and the public is welcome to attend.

Wednesday, Sept. 24 through Saturday, Sept. 27

The annual "World of Dance" showcasing the International Folk Dance Ensemble, Ballroom Dance Company, Dancers' Company, Theatre Ballet and Cougarettes will be presented at 8 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. A matinee will be presented Saturday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 29

The University of Utah's Classical Greek Theatre Festival presents its annual fall tour of the Greek tragedy "Oedipus at Colonus," performed at 5 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. Sophocles' famous play is the story of the transformation of the old, weak and vulnerable Oedipus into a hero and a national celebration of the tragic glory of Athens, Sophocles' birthplace and home.

Tickets at $9 for the general public and $3 off with a BYU or student ID are available at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 378-4322 or at http://www.byu.edu/hfac. A pre-performance lecture will be held at 4 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tuesday, Sept. 30

The BYU Instrumental Showcase featuring the Philharmonic Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra and the Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.
