Children’s Creative Dance: The BYU Young DanceMakers will present their annual "Evening of Dance" titled “Come Dream with Me” at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. The performance will feature 150 children ages 6 to 18 who have created and choreographed their own dances.
Friday and Saturday, May 11-12
Children’s Book Musical: The Performing Arts Series will conclude the season with Theatreworks USA’s “Fancy Nancy and Other Story Books,” a musical journey based on several best-selling children’s books, in the de Jong Concert hall at 7 p.m. There will also be a matinee performance Saturday at 2 p.m. Children’s books such as “Duck for President,” “I Have to Go!” and “Pirates Don’t Change Diapers” will be featured in the imaginative performance.

Faculty Recital: BYU faculty artist Alexander Woods will perform on the violin and baroque violin with guest artist Rex Woods on the piano and harpsichord at 5:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. This event is free.
Thursday, May 24-Saturday, June 9
Enchanting Play: The BYU theatre season will conclude with “Arabian Nights” at 7:30 p.m. in the Pardoe Theatre. This Utah premiere of a new adaptation of the familiar legend of “The Thousand and One Nights” tells of a beautiful bride who spins hypnotic tales of genies, kings and thieves to win her freedom and her husband’s heart. Directed by Megan Sanborn Jones, this tale of adventure and romance is told inventively through song, dance, poetry and improvisation. There will be no performances Sundays or Mondays.

Spring Chorale: The BYU University Chorale will perform at 6 p.m. at the B.F. Larsen Gallery in the Harris Fine Arts Center. This event is free.

Spring Opera: For its annual Spring Opera, The BYU School of Music presents the Gilbert and Sullivan classic “The Mikado,” a two-act comic opera. Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Free Art Exhibits at the MOA: BYU’s Museum of Art has a number of free exhibits on display throughout spring and summer:
- The exhibit “The Weir Family, 1820-1920: Expanding the Traditions of American Art,” will continue until May 19. This is the first major exhibition to collectively examine paintings by Robert Walter Weir, John Ferguson Weir and Julian Alden Weir. The exhibition explores how the transatlantic encounters of the Weir family of artists helped to shape American art for nearly a century.
- “Beauty and Belief” features more than 250 objects of Islamic art from 50 lenders in the United States and nine other countries in Europe and the Middle East. The exhibit shows that this form of art is shaped by Islamic cultural beliefs and aims to correct the assumption held by Muslims and non-Muslims alike that the art of Islam is devoid of any figurative representation. The exhibit closes Sept. 29.
- “People in a Hard Land” is a new exhibition that focuses on memorable images of people in the American Southwest that will run through Jan. 19, 2013. It explores subjects in Southwestern art that have appeared with sufficient frequency and poignancy to become truly iconic, ranging from American Indians to pioneers.
The MOA is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with extended hours Wednesday through Friday until 9 p.m. The museum is closed Sundays. For tours and additional information, visit moa.byu.edu or call (801) 422-ARTS.
