The Bard’s famous “Romeo and Juliet” will be performed in the Pardoe Theatre nightly until Dec. 4. This production of the famous tragedy is set in the Gilded Age of New York, the period spanning from 1870 to 1900. Jazz Voices will be performing in the Madsen Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. Jazz Voices is a 14-member group known for its tight harmonies, rhythmic accuracy, improvisation and scatting abilities. Tickets are available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 422-4322 or online at byuarts.com.
A trombone quartet will perform at the University Parkway Center at 7:30 p.m. The performance is free.

The Jazz Lab Band will be performing in the Madsen Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. The event is free.
Friday, Dec. 3
The annual “Celebration of Christmas” will take place in the de Jong Concert Hall. BYU’s combined choirs and Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a variety of songs for the holiday season. The event is a sell-out, but call for ticket availability at (801) 422-4322.
The “Songwriters Showcase” will feature new student music in the Madsen Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. The event is free.
Friday and Saturday, Dec. 3-4
Welcome ithe wonder of the holiday season with the annual “Christmas Around the World” in the Marriott Center. A cast of more than 200 dancers, singers and musicians will celebrate different cultures, creating a message of peace on earth. This year’s special guests are Living Legends, BYU’s Native American, Latin American and Polynesian performing troupe. Saturday, Dec. 4
A “Tuba Christmas” will take place in the Madsen Recital Hall at noon. The event is free.
The BYU Harp Ensemble, directed by Anamae Anderson, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall. The event is free.
Tuesday, Dec. 7
Two of BYU's prominent ensembles join forces for an exciting evening of classics. The Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band will perform at the de Jong Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 422-4322 or online at byuarts.com.
A string chamber night will begin at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and will take place at the University Parkway Center on the northeast corner of University Parkway and University Avenue.
Wednesday, Dec. 8

The BYU Honors Tuba Quartet will be hosting a free concert in the Maeser Building Auditorium at 7 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 11

All Month
A visit to the Harold B. Lee Library’s Auditorium Gallery on the first level will add an extra bit of color to the grays of the Provo winter weather. Jacqui and Lance Larsen, both BYU alumni, are displaying an exhibit together through Feb. 11, 2011. Jacqui graduated with an MFA degree in art and uses found text, patterns and images to create her colorful whimsical art. Lance is a published poet and teaches in the English Department on campus. Together, their exhibit explores “animals as messengers, avatars, rescuers, wild cousins, doppelgangers, [and] joint stewards of this wobbly planet.” Admission is free.
The BYU Museum of Art has a number of exhibits on display throughout the month:
- “Wide-Open Spaces: Capturing the Grandeur of the Southwest” includes a number of artists from the Western United States and explores how they capture the beautiful landscapes and people of the Southwest in art.
- “James Tissot: The Life of Christ” features a number of religious paintings by Tissot, a French artist. The exhibit is part of a traveling tour from the Brooklyn Museum.
- “e.g.” is an interactive art piece by Brian Knep that allows participants to walk through the art and watch it rebuild itself.
- “Bill Owens: Suburbia” features images from the vast suburban expansion in the U.S. after WWII and explores the idea of the American dream.
- “As the Rose: Sculptures by Adam Bateman” is a collection of sculptures created from sprinkler components. The sculptures explore the history of Utahns and the desert landscape.
- “American Dreams” displays prints, paintings, sculptures and photography that examine the ideas and visions of America.
- The exhibit, “Carl Heinrich Bloch: The Master’s Hand,” will continue until May 2011. The exhibit will feature works by Bloch, a 19th-century Danish artist, whose paintings of Jesus Christ are often used by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Admission is free, but registration for tickets for this exhibit is required at carlbloch.byu.edu.
