BYU "Final Cut 2007" film festival to run Oct. 9-13

The Brigham Young University Department of Theatre and Media Arts will present Final Cut 2007, BYU’s annual student film festival, Oct. 9-13.

This year’s festival will include a variety of films in three screenings. Program A will screen at 7 p.m. and Program B at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the Wilkinson Student Center’s Varsity Theater.

The 2007 Final Cut selections, taken from both programs, will be shown Friday and Saturday at 6 and 8 p.m. in the Joseph Smith Building auditorium.

Admission will be $4 in advance and $5 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the Wilkinson Student Center Information Desk.

This year’s entries run from 30 seconds to 25 minutes and come from the narrative, documentary, experimental and commercial genres.

The festival has been a springboard for many student filmmakers to larger opportunities. Jared Hess’ “Peluca” became the forerunner of “Napoleon Dynamite”; the BYU animation program’s “Lemmings” earned the honor of best animation picture from the Student Academy Awards; and “The Last Good War” by Ryan Little eventually became the award-winning “Saints and Soldiers.”
