BYU film series to screen two Laurel and Hardy classics March 24

“Saps at Sea” and “County Hospital”

The L. Tom Perry Special Collections Motion Picture Archive Film Series at Brigham Young University will present “Saps at Sea” and “County Hospital” Friday, March 24, at 7 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free. No food or drink is allowed in the auditorium and children age 8 and older are welcome.

Starring the famous comedian team of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, “Saps at Sea” follows the two funny men on an ocean voyage where an escaped criminal takes refuge aboard their rented boat.

The short comedy “County Hospital” finds Hardy in the hospital with a broken leg “for a nice quiet rest” until Laurel comes to visit and creates quite a stir.

After a partnership of nearly two decades, “Saps at Sea” marks the final film made by the comedians for producer Hal Roach. The motion picture also marks the last of 33 films with moustached Scottish character actor James Finlayson, the source for Homer Simpson’s famous “D’oh!” exclamation.

For a complete film series schedule, visit sc.lib.byu.edu or contact James V. D’Arc at (801) 422-6371.
