BYU film archive series offers “Miracle on 34th Street” Dec. 6

On Thursday, Dec. 6, the Brigham Young University Motion Picture Archive Film Series, part of L. Tom Perry Special Collections, will screen “Miracle on 34th Street” starring Maureen O’Hara, John Payne, Edmund Gwenn and Natalie Wood in the Harold B. Lee Llibrary auditorium on level one.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie will be shown at 7 p.m. The movie runs for one hour and 36 minutes. The event is free and the public is welcome.

Edmund Gwenn is the consummate Kris Kringle, and the motion picture industry agreed when it gave him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his winning portrayal of Christmas’s kindly benefactor.

This contemporary tale released in 1947 and set around Macy’s department store in Manhattan, its annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and a “modern” mother and daughter jaded to the notion of Santa Claus, also won an Oscar for the Valentine Davies story.

The lights are lit in Brigham Square, snow is dusting the mountains and finals are just around the corner. Students are invited to take a short break from studying and enjoy this part of the Christmas spirit.
