BYU faculty trio plan free recital Jan. 29

Brigham Young University’s School of Music will present a faculty artist recital featuring soprano Diane Thueson Reich and Jaren Hinckley on the clarinet accompanied on the piano by Scott Holden Friday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the Madsen Recital Hall.

Admission is free, and the public is welcome to attend.

Reich, Hinckley and Holden will begin their performance with “Three Songs of Innocence,” a song cycle by Arnold Atkinson Cooke and “Der Hirt auf dem Felsen” by Franz Schubert. They will also perform songs originally composed by Hinckley, including “Shepherd on the Rocks,” “The Water Gardens at Fountains Abbey” for E flat clarinet and “Alaska.”

After a brief intermission, they will perform Three Vocalises, Prelude, Scherzo and Quasi Menuetto, by Vaughan Williams and “My Funny Valentine” by Richard Rodgers. The recital will conclude with “It Don’t Mean a Thing” by Duke Ellington and “Cry Me a River” by Arthur Hamilton.
