BYU faculty member named editor of top engineering journal

The chair of Brigham Young University’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Department was recently named editor-in-chief of IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, a top journal in the field of antennas and propagation.

Michael Jensen began his appointment Aug. 1. Jensen received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from BYU and his doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. He returned to BYU in 1994 where he teaches classes in electromagnetic, high-frequency circuit design and signal processing for communications.

IEEE Transactions has been published since 1952 and has announced new discoveries, research progress and information on education. According to its website, it is one of the top 10 journals published in the telecommunications field.

The journal has an international reach with associate editors from the United States, Japan, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Canada and the People’s Republic of China. The journal also gives awards yearly for best papers written in the field.

BYU research: Mega wildfires can actually be a good thing

November 04, 2025
BYU professor Sam St. Clair is the principal investigator on the first study to show positive impacts of megafires (fires greater than 100,000 acres) across different forest types. Megafires can help some forest communities thrive — especially in areas where chronic browsing by elk, deer, and livestock has hindered tree regeneration, a widespread issue that often leads to forest regeneration failure.
