BYU faculty jazz ensemble Q'd Up to give free concert Jan. 17

Jazz combo Q'd Up, playing at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, combines the talent and personalities of five Brigham Young University faculty members for a night of question-and-answer improvisation, classic sounds and completely original material.

The show will be held in the Madsen Recital Hall in the Harris Fine Arts Center and admission is free.

Q'd Up's relaxed but professional manner creates an atmosphere that allows the audience to feel as if they have been invited to a jam session with the artists. The group includes Ray Smith on woodwinds, Steve Lindeman on keyboards, Ron Brough and Jay Lawrence on percussion, and Matt Larson on bass, with guest Kelly Eisenhour on vocals.

"We're all coming off the heels of a big conference in New York City," said band member Ron Brough. "We're going to be highly charged and energized because we're hearing some of the best players in the world, and we'll try to bring that to the students."

The program includes music by Hoagy Carmichael, Mitchell Parish and Antonio Carlos Jobim, as well as original compositions by band members Jay Lawrence, Steve Lindeman, as well as Kelly Eisenhour.

For more information, contact Ron Brough at (801) 422-3320.
