BYU English Department hosts weekly reading series

The Brigham Young University English Department is sponsoring a weekly reading series on Fridays at noon in the Harold B. Lee Library auditorium during March on the BYU campus.

The lectures are free and the public is invited to attend.

Participants for the series include:

  • March 12, Kim Stafford, writing instructor at Lewis and Clark College where he directs the Northwest Writing Institute. His most recent publications include “The Muses Among Us: Eloquent Listening” and “A Thousand Friends of Rain: New & Selected Poems.” His honors include two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships for creative writing and an Oregon Governor’s Arts Award.

  • March 19, Douglas Thayer, creative writing teacher at BYU. Thayer recently published his fourth book “The Conversion of Jeff Williams.” His other works include “Mr. Wahlquist in Yellowstone and Other Stories” and “Summer Fire.” His work has appeared in “Dialogue” and “BYU Studies.” His honors include the 2000 Dialogue Prize for the Personal Essay and the 1998 Honorary Life Membership from the Association for Mormon Letters.

    Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

    For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
