BYU engineering student receives national fellowship

Tau Beta Pi, a national engineering honor society, recently awarded Brigham Young University student James Greer a fellowship for $10,000.

Greer, a graduate student in civil engineering with an emphasis in water resources, received the fellowship for his research experience and future research plans.

"I want to be a hydrologist and water resource engineer, and my research is in helping to develop some advanced software tools to make computer groundwater models," Greer said.

Greer worked as a research assistant at the Environmental Modeling Research Laboratory for more than two years helping to develop groundwater modeling software. During his time there, he researched with a professor from Beijing Normal University. Their research resulted in a groundwater model of an area in China.

As an undergraduate student, Greer also visited Beijing Normal University to participate in a seminar about software developed at BYU.

Fellowship recipients must be members of Tau Beta Pi society and graduate students in the engineering discipline.
