BYU engineer to discuss "Designing Your World" at July 16 BYU forum

Spencer Magleby, a professor of mechanical engineering and the associate dean of the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology, will give an address titled "Designing Your World" at a Brigham Young University campus forum Tuesday, July 16, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

The devotional will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and online at byutv.org. Rebroadcast information can be found through byutv.org/schedule. Archived devotionals are available at speeches.byu.edu.

Summer term devotionals and forums will also be broadcast on campus in F-201 Harris Fine Arts Center, the Joseph Smith Building Auditorium and the Varsity Theater in the Wilkinson Student Center.

At BYU, Magleby researches product designs that use new mechanism technologies, design tools and processes that bridge engineering and business, and engineering team formation and management. He has helped oversee more than 200 undergraduate and graduate design projects through his involvement with the Capstone and Interdisciplinary Product Development programs.

Many of his developments are put to use in BYU’s student design and development teams, as well as other educational programs throughout the country. In 2003, Magleby was honored for his excellence in teaching engineering design with the Fred Merryfield Design Award from the American Society for Engineering Education.

Magleby holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from BYU. He received his doctorate in mechanical engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988.
