BYU Department of Visual Arts receives continuing accreditation from national association

The Brigham Young University Department of Visual Arts recently received continuing accreditation for eight years from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design Commission.

The NASAD Commission of Accreditation announced accreditation for the Department of Visual Arts program and degree in November 2005 based on an on-site visit in February. NASAD is an association of approximately 248 schools of art and design, primarily at the collegiate level.

In February 2005, a five-member panel conducted an on-site visit, including interviews with students, faculty, staff and administrators, as well as reviews of degrees, programs and physical facilities of the department. Based on the recommendations from the committee, BYU received accreditation for the longest period of time accreditation can be given. The commission also voted to accept the new bachelor of fine arts degree in animation.

The BYU Department of Visual Arts has been continuously accredited in good standing since 1989.

For more information, contact Linda Sullivan, chair of the Visual Arts Department, at (801) 422-5062.
