BYU DancEnsemble to be "Moving Out Loud" during performances March 24-25

Brigham Young University’s DancEnsemble, comprised of student performers and choreographers, will be “Moving Out Loud” Friday and Saturday, March 24-25, at 7:30 p.m. in 166 Richards Building.

Tickets for the performance are $5. To purchase tickets, call the Fine Arts Tickets Office at (801) 422-4322 or visit performances.byu.edu. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.

“Moving Out Loud” features five student choreographic works and five works created by professional guest artists. The guest works range from the delicately classical to the athletically postmodern.

“Filled with variety and dynamic dance, these performances promise to be engaging enough to make the audience want to ‘move out loud’ themselves,” said DancEnsemble director Pat Debenham.

New York choreographer Edisa Weeks restaged “Fall,” originally created on pointe for ballet dancers. This piece is inspired by Weeks’ love for nature and evocative images of streams that dance and leaves that delicately drift in the air. Weeks also created “Suite 1,” a duet that exhibits a child-like playfulness of two dancing sisters.

Tonya Lockyer, an internationally known dancer, vocalist, director, choreographer and teacher, created a personal solo for dancer Jennifer Johnson. Working from experiences in Johnson’s life and Lockyer’s international perspective, the solo makes the personal universal and the universal personal. Lockyer’s work has been presented at festivals in Europe, Canada and Russia, as well as in New York City, Los Angeles, Boston and Seattle.

Professional dancer and choreographer Carley Conder presents the technical and athletic “Imminent Domain.” Conder’s work explores the sense of forces beyond control that affect personal direction in life. The dance will be accompanied by music from Orchestra Baobob, Michael Nyman and Franz Ferdinand.

“Filled with variety and dynamic dance, this performance promises to be engaging enough to make the audience want to ‘move out loud’ themselves,” said DancEnsemble Director Pat Debenham.
