BYU Contemporary Dance Theatre previews India tour program July 20

Brigham Young University’s Contemporary Dance Theatre will perform “The Rhythm of Life,” Friday, July 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Richards Building Dance Studio (169 RB). The concert is a preview of what the company will perform on their upcoming tour to India.

Admission to the concert is $6. Tickets are available at the BYU Arts Tickets Office at (801) 422-4322 or at byuarts.com.  It will last approximately 90 minutes.

The program will explore the diversity of American contemporary dance and its intersections with the music of America and the world. In a kaleidoscope of motion, color and sound, the audience will experience dance that is meant to touch the spirit, the soul and the heart.

The company first performed “The Rhythm of Life” for the Winterfest 2012 in Salt Lake City.

The tour to India will mark a return of the Contemporary Dance Theatre to India. In 2001 the company performed in cities throughout India including Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Coimbatore and Chennai. Many of those cities will be revisited during their summer 2012 tour.

The Contemporary Dance Theatre, formerly known as the Dancers’ Company, is BYU’s premier modern dance group and was formed in 1975.
