BYU construction management finishes second in national competition

Brigham Young University’s Construction Management competition team won second place in the National Association of Home Builders Competition in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Team members included Ben Ashton, Ryan Carter, Scott DeGraffenried, David Gardner, Nathan Hutchings and Spencer Jarvis.

The BYU team was challenged to map an entire business plan including land acquisition, development of building schedules, actual construction, detailed marketing and research plans and long-term management plans for 117 homes in the Club West master-planned community in Blaine, Minn.

The team began work in October 2003 to put together a 220-page book of their proposed plan and a 15-minute presentation for the competition.

The NAHB competition is held at the beginning of each year and is sponsored by Centex Homes.
